Object Description

This super quality set of 4 crested Victorian silver shell butter dishes were made in London in 1838 by John S Hunt and measure almost 3.5 inches at their widest by 3 5/8 inches back to front edge, they are fashioned as scallop shells and have 2 cast winkle shells as feet underneath, they are crested to the tops on the reverse and are fully and clearly hallmarked to the fronts, they are in excellent condition weighing 9.60 ounces or 298 grams.
