Object Description

For sale is this striking arts and crafts Omar Ramsden and Alwyn Carr silver and enamel peacock necklace. This is a rare piece of assayed jewellery by this famous partnership, and dates to just their third year together, 1902. This vibrant peacock necklace represents one of the grandest, most ambitious, pieces of jewellery by Ramsden and Carr that I have seen. A similar necklace (not assayed) was sold at Tadema Gallery some years ago and is now in the collection of the Richard H. Driehaus Museum, Chicago.
Overall condition is very good. The peacock enamel is a classic arts and crafts motif and is in excellent original condition. The hanging blue enamel has worn a little and some silver is showing through, with no significant aesthetic impact. There is also some wear to the two small upper enamels. The clasp enamel is in excellent condition.
The necklace is fairly short but could readily and unobtrusively be lengthened if required.
