Object Description

This elegant piece is a great example with spacious scale and harmonious colour combination and not common in this squarish format.

Object History

Textile and carpet weaving in the north Indian city of Agra was introduced by the Mughals in the 16th and 17th centuries, a period when Mughal artistry and craftsmanship flourised. It was then revived under British rule during the 19th century accompanied by renewed Western interest and demand. In keeping with Western furnishing tastes, carpets during this era were created with simplified characteristics of the 16th/17th century weavings. Many of these are seen in grand houses in the UK and  Europe.

Object Condition

In good practical condition.
