Object Description

1950s French rattan wall sculpture of a Bulls head. Hand crafted, woven in osier, probably from the Camargue. In fair vintage condition, ready to hang.

With an area of over 930 km2 (360 sq mi), the Camargue houses western Europe’s largest river delta. Located in southern France south of the city of Arles, between the Mediterranean Sea and the two arms of the Rhône river delta. It is a vast plain comprising large brine lagoons or étangs, cut off from the sea by sandbars and encircled by reed-covered marshes. These are in turn surrounded by a large cultivated area. The artisans of this region have traditionally worked the natural reed fibres to craft all manner of furniture, utilitarian items and decorative objects.
