Regency Rosewood Bracket Clock by Thomas William Hay, Shrewsbury

Finely figured Rosewood arch top case with brass inlay and stringing standing on a moulded plinth and resting on four brass ball feet. Brass silk lined fishscale frets to the sides of the case and glazed back door to view the movement.

Hinged front door opening to a silvered dial with Roman numerals, original ‘blued’ steel hands and slow/fast regulation dial to the arch signed ‘Thomas William Hay, Shrewsbury’.

Eight day Fusee movement of fine quality with substantial brass shaped plates, the backplate signed ‘Thomas William Hay, Shrewsbury’ with original brass pendulum and pendulum holdfast. C.1830

‘Watchmakers and clockmakers of the World’ by Brian Loomes lists Thomas William Hay as working in Shrewsbury, Shropshire from 1828 to 1856.
