Object Description

A good quality, very original rosewood cased striking Bracket clock dating to the early 19th Century. It has a gadrooned chamfer top, surmounted by a brass pineapple. The case has brass edged inset quadrant panels, and chamfered brass set corners, a wavey base moulding and adjustable brass ball feet. The sides have brass drop handles and Gothic tracery side frets lined with silk. The 8 inch diameter convex dial has a brass bezel and high dome convex glass, with moon hands. It has an 8 day twin fusee movement that strike the hours on a bell and has an hour pull repeat. The back plate has wheatsheaf engraving and a starburst engraved pendulum with an inverse regulator.

Object History

The dial is signed by the maker Cooper of Colchester. John Cooper was born in 1790 and worked in Colchester until 1835.
