Repousse silver and silver gilt desk top book rest, Spain, mid 18th century

Object Description

A fine desk top book rest, the wooden base and hinged book support with the original wood grain painted decoration and embellished with roupousse silver and silver gilt applied decoration incorporating a coat of arms and the Madonna and child flanked by a male and a female saint. Spain, baroque, mid 18th century.

Object Condition

Excellent condition with some paint losses, some replaced mouldings around the feet and lacking the original book rest supports.
