Object Description
Rococo style ormolu mantel clock with putti
French, 19th Century
Height 42cm, width 27cm depth 14cm
This fine mantel clock is beautifully designed in the French Rococo style. Dating from the 19th century, the clock is made almost exclusively from ormolu (gold plated bronze), with the exception of some small details which are contrasted in patinated bronze, in a dark brown colour.
The ormolu clock case curves one way and then another, in typical Rococo style, with S and C shapes scrolling detailing throughout. The central clock dial displays the time in Roman numerals and is flanked on either side with two cherubs in patinated bronze, with further patinated bronze detail in the form of a bird shown underneath the dial.
This beautiful clock would look resplendent on a traditional mantel piece or could be used as a statement piece in a more contemporary setting.
