Rococo style porcelain and gilt bronze table mirror by Hautin Boulenger & Cie
French, 19th Century
Dimensions: Height 70cm, width 41cm, depth 5cm
This ornate table mirror is designed in the Rococo Louis XV style and crafted from gilt bronze and painted porcelain plaques. The gilt bronze frame features an oval mirror in the centre, with Sevres style triangular porcelain plaques to each corner. These plaques are delicately painted with Rococo style female figures and cherubs lounging in a floral landscape. Circular medallions separate the plaques, decorated in the Sevres ‘bleu celeste’ style to match the blue borders of the plaques. The frame of the mirror is profusely decorated with ormolu mounts, particularly in the form of floral garlands, and an additional oval porcelain plaque surmount at the top.
One of the circular porcelain plaques is impressed with ‘H.B / CHOISY’ to the reverse. These were made by 19th Century French porcelain manufacturer Hautin Boulenger & Cie.
