Object Description
A hollow-formed Roman gold finger ring consisting of a broad oval hoop with expanding shoulders and an inset oval banded agate flat-topped cabochon with an intaglio. The nude figure, standing facing right with left arm raised to head and right arm holding a cornucopiae, represents Harpocrates. He is the son of the Egyptian goddess Isis and her husband Osiris, adapted by the Greeks from the Egyptian child god Horus. He was the god of silence, secrets and confidentiality, which is why he is recognized by the hushing motion of his left hand.
