Russian Gardner porcelain figurine of a peasant
Russian, late 19th Century
Height 14cm, width 11cm, depth 8cm

This painted bisque porcelain figure by Gardner portrays a seated peasant sprinkling salt on a slice of bread he’s about to eat. The peasant sits barefoot beside a tree stump on a naturalistically rendered oval base. The figure is brightly painted, and is marked and numbered to the underside in Cyrillic with the Moscow St. George and Dragon crest of the maker.
