An exceptional, fine and impressive, antique Russian silver chalice; an addition to our collection of wine and drinks related silverware.
This exceptional antique Russian silver chalice has a circular bell shaped form onto a knopped pedestal and circular domed foot.
The surface of this silver chalice is embellished with engraved decoration depicting four circular cartouches, displaying three simplified portraits of Russian Orthodox icons, in addition to a Patriarchal cross between two swords.
Each cartouche is encompassed with plain paralleling borders and segmented with large leaf designs, incorporating further scrolling leaf designs to the lower rounded portion.
The drinking vessel is supported by a baluster shaped knopped pedestal, ornamented to the lower knop with engraved leaf ornamentation.
The foot is encircled with further engraved portraits and foliate designs, in addition to bands of engraved basket weave style ornamentation to the rim.
