Russian vermeil model of a samovar adorned with champlevé enamel
Russian, 20th Century
Height 11cm, width 7cm, depth 7cm

This wonderful and ornate object is a model of a samovar, a Russian item traditionally used to boil water. The model is wrought from vermeil, or gilded silver, and its body is profusely decorated with champlevé enamel. The square base of the samovar, its bulbous body, and its domed lid are all coloured with polychrome enamels arranged into traditional Russian forms and motifs. The handles of the model, as well as the finials atop its lid, are made of ivorine.

The silver is marked, indicating 87.5% purity.
