This clock and barometer carriage set is a unique and historic piece of design, which would originally have been used to keep time and monitor the weather while travelling. The pair will look beautiful placed on a mantelpiece, side or dressing table.
Crafted from porcelain, the faces of the clock and barometer have been delicately hand-painted with Sèvres style depictions of birds and flowers, set against light ‘bleu celeste’ grounds. The clock face displays a circular white dial, with Roman Numerals and numbers, and the barometer features numbers and the inscriptions, ‘Stormy, Rain, Change, Fair, Very Dry’. The sides and backs of the two items are decorated with more Sèvres style images of birds with nests and flowers, painted onto white grounds, and framed by foliate cartouches and light ‘bleu celeste’ borders.
The clock and barometer are placed within glass and gilt brass cases, joined by a handle. The two are set on small, brass toupie feet.
