Object Description

This Sevres style porcelain vase is painted after a scene completed in 1837, of the Emperor Napoleon receiving Queen Louisa of Prussia at Tilsit on 6 July 1807. The original painting by Nicolas Louis Francois Gosse (French, 1787-1878) is part of the collection at the Chateau de Versailles, Paris. The reverse of this scene shoes a pastoral composition of a chateau. The porcelain vase is mounted in striking antique ormolu, which has been masterfully cast into Empire style laurel leaves and eagles.
