An exceptionally well proportioned example of a late 18th century Sheraton period rosewood sofa / games table of the finest quality. The well figured rosewood top heightened with broad burr maple crossbanding, tulipwood to the edge and further holly and boxwood stringing, with integral sliding and reversiable chess board, revealing an internal backgammon board. The frieze also incorporating two short drawers for gaming pieces. The whole raised on two outswept sabre legged end standard supports united by an arched stretcher, all decorated with fine boxwood stringing and terminating in original brass box castors. All original brassware. This is a particularly rare and fine model, undoubtedly made by one of the very best cabinet makers working at this time.
