Object Description
Silver plated horn cornucopia vase by WMF
German, Early 20th Century
Height 37.5cm, width 33cm, depth 11cm
Made from horn and mounted with silver plate, this superb piece is an antique cornucopia vase crafted in Germany around the turn of the twentieth century. Marked for WMF, or Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik, the body and rim are mounted with silver, and the piece stands on a small ornate mount and circular vase. Crafted with exceptional skill and artistry, the work is very similar to other examples by WMF, and a type of object particularly popular in Northern Europe and Scandinavia towards the and of the nineteenth century and beginning of the twentieth. It is marked variously ‘N’, ‘W’ (for the firm), and ‘E’.
