Object Description
Small early 18th century Regence giltwood mirror with a central rectangular mirror plate surrounded by for marginal plates that are set
between carved and gilded pinewood framing sections. A carved plume pediment flanked by scrolling foliage overlaps the top bordering mirror plate. The corners accentuated by boldly carved acanthus leaves and c-scrolls. As so typical of the Regence period there is an interrelation between the bold carving, the shallow gesso carving and the burnished and matte gilding. The design is able to intercept the different surface treatments in a balanced and skillful way.
