Object Description

This example is a faithful interpretation with a modern twist, handwoven in Iran with vegetable-dyed colours and  handspun wool with a grey colour field harmonising with the settled colour combination of the drawing. The main border is generously proportioned and frames the drawing nicely. An attractive feature is the uniformity of colours with the field and main border.

A sleek carpet to complement a wide variety of spaces, not common in this square format.

Object History

This elegant rug belongs to a group of carpets specifically commissioned in western Persia during the 19th century to complement European furnishing tastes. They are unique due to their grand scale drawings, quiet formality and use of soft colours and are often seen in grand stately homes in the UK and Europe.  These timeless classics work well in modern spaces as they have the aesthetic ability to unite and balance both classic and contemporary elements.
