Object Description

Staffordshire figure with a maritime theme which features a sailor, stood on a shaped base. Multi-coloured version. Dull gilt base line and embellishment. Decorated ‘in the round’ – decoration to front and reverse. Vent hole to the underside. Book reference,’Victorian Staffordshire Figures 1835-1875′ Book 1, by A.& N. Harding, page 241, figure 848.

Object Condition

Good. A few paint losses to his shirt. Slight rubbing to gilt. KILN EFFECTS: glaze pops to his shoes, belt, tie and hair; flecks of stray coloured glaze to trousers; craze lines to the neck. RESTORATION: Retouched paint losses to his left shoe, belt, tie and hair.
