Object Description
An exceptional, fine and impressive, large pair of antique German silver five light candelabra made in the Empire style; an addition to our ornamental silverware collection
These exceptional and large antique German silver candelabra have a plain circular form, in the Empire style.
Each impressive candelabrum retains the original hallmarked detachable push fit scrolling arms, which support Corinthian capitals with plain, hallmarked circular dished drip pans.
The central boss conjoining the arms is embellished with embossed acorn style finials and floral medallions encompassed with swag ornamentation, all in the Empire style.
These versatile antique and large candelabra can be used with five lights or as candlesticks once the arms (labra) are detached.
The Corinthian style columns are surmounted on a circular swept foot, to an octagonal spreading collet style base.
Each foot is further embellished with embossed festoon and strap decoration, emanating from a large circular knop.
The five light silver candelabra/candlesticks do not have weighted bases.
The hallmarks struck to each base consists of:
Silver quality/purity mark: 800 (800/1000)
National mark: Crescent moon and crown
NOTE: Such German examples are designed to create imposing and large centrepieces, therefore are not crafted with a heavy gauge of silver. The British silver equivalent would be three or four times the weight; proportionally these candelabra are very good value for their size.
