Charles Thomas Bale was a London still life painter who flourished during the latter half of the 19th century. His compositions were predominantly of fruit, but he frequently incorporated pottery, glass and game. Bale’s work was influenced by the English still life artists George Lance and William Duffield. He exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1872 and at the Institute of British Artists, Suffolk Street between 1866 and 1875.

The painting is housed in a new, English made gilt frame which is in excellent condition.
