Object Description
A finely potted stoneware deep bowl of flared form, the rim freely sculpted, the body with a row of piercings and with typical Alan Wallwork texturing beneath mottled glaze, the interior with naturalistic running glaze lines over the mottled ground, puddling in the well of the base with a glassy finish. The foot unglazed and with the potter’s mark AW. Late 20th century.
Alan Wallwork is best known for his natural / organic inspired work. His art is in the tradition of exciting and experimental hand built ceramics which grew up around the Central School and Goldsmiths College in the 1950s.
