Object Description
This super armorial George I silver snuff box was made C1720 and is unmarked and is number 117 in the Lion collection book, it measures 3 1/8 inches in length by 2 3/8 inches wide and is 0.5 inches deep and it has a slightly domed and hinged lid which is engraved with a lovely coat of arms which are those of Coram or Corham of Ottery St Mary Devon with the engraving of the crest intended to be a beaver, it is thought that Thomas Coram (1668?- 1751) the philantropist who was born in Lyme Regis and went on to establish the London Foundling Hospital was a member of this family. The stand away hinge is in good order and the lids closes well, a super box with a lovely coat of arms in excellent condition.
