Object Description

This superb armorial George I silver tobacco box was made in London in 1725 by Edward Cornock and measures 4 inches long by 3 1/8 inches wide and is 13/16 inches deep. It is engraved to the pull off lid with the crest of a lion rampant above a coat of arms surrounded by florid engraving and to the underside it has double cipher initials of RF. It is fully hallmarked to the base on the side (makers mark lightly struck) and inside the lid with the lion passant and makers mark again a partial. A lovely box in very nice condition weighing 4.45 ounces or 138 grams.
