Object Description

This superb, large George III silver coffee pot was made in London in 1773 by Charles Wright and measures 12.25 inches tall by 8.75 inches wide handle to spout and is 4.25 inches in dia across the base. The cast base has a gadrooned border leading into a pear shaped body with a florid cartouche to one side with the hinged lead also having a gadrooned border and a domed lid with acanthus leaf finial. The cast swan neck spout it beautiful with graduated bead detailing, fluting, scrolling and a shaped edge where it attached to the pot, there is further bead and scroll detailing to the top and mid spout. It has a double scrolled fruit wood handle with a scrolled terminal at the base and a shell terminal at the top, it is fully and clearly hallmarked under the base and also to the lid rim with the lion passant and is in very good condition weighing 32.5 ounces, a lovely coffee pot.
