Object Description

A superb Louis XV (circa 1750) French petite secretaire en pente in the manner of BVRB.

This secretaire en pente, veneered on oak, the front and sides with tulipwood ground with inlaid Kingwood bois-de-bout marquetry and quarter cut Kingwood bandings, the back of quarter cut tulipwood and Kingwood banding, all with superb ormolu foliate mounts to the top, front and sides.

The fall opening to reveal a tooled red leather writing surface with fitted interior consisting of pigeon holes, drawers and secret sliding compartment all supported on four elegant cabriole legs with ormolu foliate mounts and terminating with ormolu sabot feet.

Bernard II Van Risenburgh (1735-1765) or BVRB was a Parisian ebeniste, his father established himself in Paris as a cabinetmaker in the late 17th century. Bernard II was regarded as one of the greatest ebeniste during the reign of Louis XV renowned for beautifully shaped pieces using tulipwood and quarter cut veneers with marquetry and gilt mounts and was also held in high esteem by his contemporaries.

This piece is in very good condition for age, is of stable construction and can go straight into a home or collection.
