Object Description
A superb Roman jug handle of a Satyr and horse made of bronze. The Satyr is depicted with wild, waving locks of hair and a piercing expression. Originally his eyes would have been inlaid with silver and there are faint remains of the pigment still to be found. The handle itself is decorated with acanthus leaves in low relief. The handle begins with the forepart of a horse, depicted as though rearing, the front hooves now lost. An exceptional piece with beautiful detailing.
