The Hermitage Pavillion comes from a series of palaces and gardens located in Saint Petersburg, Russia, laid out by the orders of Peter the Great. It was designed by Mikhail Zemtsov in 1744 and remodelled by Francesco Bartolomeo Rastrelli in 1749. and formerly crowned by a grand-gilded sculpture representing The Rape of Persephone . These Palaces and gardens are sometimes referred as the “Russian Versailles”. The palace ensemble along with the city centre is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
