Edward Mann was born in Chelsea, London in 1835. He spent most of his life living and working in the London area. From 1863, he lived at 16 Thistle Grove, Brompton and from 1865 was living at 16 Earls Court Gardens in Old Brompton. By 1901, he had moved to Teddington in Middlesex. He specialised in painting genre scenes often containing children as in these fine examples.
He exhibited at the Royal Society of British Artists from 1863-1874 with titles such as ‘Village Gossips’, ‘The Washing Day’ and ‘Preparing for the Bath’ to name but a few. He also exhibited at the Royal Academy and Suffolk Street.
The paintings are housed in new, English made gilt frames which are in excellent condition.
