This garniture, comprising three pieces—one jardinière and two candelabra—was produced by the esteemed Tétard Frères and is composed of beautiful white-ground Sèvres style porcelain and exceptional solid silver mounts.
The central jardinière is raised on a square porcelain base and a curvilinear porcelain stem, the porcelain parcel gilt throughout, painted with multi-coloured floral motifs, and mounted with silver elements. The body of the jardinière is painted to the front with a Rococo style scene of courtly life, while to the rear is painted several bunches of floral sprigs. The body is mounted below with a silver support and along its rim with a wonderfully worked silver edging, the silver formed into a flowing assemblage of foliage. To each side of the body is a porcelain handle, formed and painted to resemble an acanthus leaf.
The candelabra are similarly decorated, each candelabrum set on a conforming base, stem, and body. The porcelain body of each candelabrum issues six silver scrolling foliate branches, each branch terminating in a candleholder.
The painting to the front of the jardinière is signed ‘L. Leber’, while the porcelain throughout is signed beneath with underglaze blue marks—the signature of Sèvres. The silver mounts are all fully hallmarked.
