Object Description

Late Ming transitional – made during the reign of the Emperor Chongzhen, the last of the Ming Emperors. Octagonal painted with alternating panels of flowers or landscape. the rim is slightly barbed and everted.
The flowers show four of the noble flowers including peony and chrysanthemum. Four Character mark to the base inside a double circle.
the slightly pale colour was a fashion of the late Ming there are examples of this pale colour in Museums including the V.& A. (Victoria and Albert in London)
pretty bowl and more unusual.

Object Condition

perfect, small firing flaw to the foot rim where there is a glazed over chip which obviously done before firing.
