Object Description

Chinese 17th Century – Late Ming – ovoid jar decorated with the wucai palette to show the three abundances or luck Fruits (three Plentys).
the fruits are the Peach for longevity, Pomegranate for abundance and fertility (due to the amount of seeds) and the citron which may be in some cases replaced by the lychee for happiness
The fruit are shown on branches and in overglaze enamels.
the main body is painted in ‘burnt orange’ with an intense scale pattern while around the base and the shoulder a wave pattern of Ruyi heads. The neck is painted to the sides with lappets or some times called stiff leaves.
The base is unglazed and the rim has the typical brown edge to it
