Two Ancestor Portraits, China, Qing Dynasty, late 19th century

Object Description

Two large ancestor portraits, ink and colour on paper, the lady depicted wearing an elaborate dragon and phoenix headdress and a red robe with a “mandarin” badge denoting rank, seated in a blue silk draped armchair, the gentleman wearing a fur lined hat and fur lined blue robe, seated in a red silk draped armchair. China, Qing Dynasty, late 19th century. Both framed in simple Chinese style hardwood frames with central pierced bronze hanger.

Object Condition

Both with losses, the male portrait with one small restoration (visible on image) to the border of his inside robe, also slight bowing.
