This is a truly beautiful set of jugs, elegantly slender in shape and mounted with beautiful silver decorations; luxurious enough for special occasions and yet functional enough for everyday use. They are the work of the German firm of silversmiths, Koch and Bergfeld, who have been based in the town of Bremen since they were founded in 1829.
The decanters are conical in shape and their wide bases feature beautifully etched scrolling foliate decorations, below bands of silver which support the scrolling handles. On each piece, the handle is attached to the silver mount which adorns the neck of the vase. The silver mounts have been finely decorated using the complex and highly intricate repousse technique, which involves hammering a design onto the reverse side of the metal to create a design in low relief. Here the silver is beautifully decorated with arabesques and foliate motifs, and each jug is surmounted by a silver crown.
The jugs, a near pair differing slightly in height, will wonderfully complement both contemporary and traditional table designs.
Their dimensions are as follows:
The taller jug- height 34cm, width 15cm, depth 13cm
The shorter jug- height 32cm, width 15cm, depth 13cm
