Object Description

Two fruitwood corner bosses both carved with flamboyant scrolling foliate motifs, the body of one with the emblems of justice, scales, sword and blindfold above an oval marbled cartouche, the other with dividers, book and snake and an oval marbled cartouche. Retaining the original gilding and polychrome decoration. Possibly Spain, circa 1760

Temperance, Fortitude, Prudence and Justice are the guiding virtues of Freemasonry and these two carvings represent Prudence and Justice. The Masonic iconography can clearly be seen in both.
