These display cabinets (or vitrines) are elegant pieces of French furniture, which have been veneered in the variegated green gemstone, malachite, and decorated with fine gilt bronze (ormolu) mounts.
Each cabinet is rectangular in shape, and is composed of three shelves and a compartment below, all of which is contained behind a lockable door. The front top corners of the cabinets are decorated with gilt bronze espagnolette (female bust) sculptures, with gilt bronze beaded bands between them. The shelves are placed within interiors lined with a floral golden coloured fabric. The upper parts of the cabinets are glazed, the bevelled glass panes set within foliate gilt bronze frames. Their glazed tops enable the viewer to enjoy the items displayed on the shelves. The cabinets’ lower sections feature malachite veneers, decorated on their fronts with gilt bronze rosettes within wreaths formed by crossed cornucopias, flowers and foliage. Similar gilt bronze motifs decorate the lower sides of the cabinets. These floral gilt bronze designs are set within rectangular foliate gilt bronze frames. Beaded gilt bronze bands decorate the cabinets’ bases, and their shaped aprons are mounted with gilt bronze scrolled foliate motifs. Each cabinet stands on four slightly cabriole legs, ornamented with gilt bronze leafy mounts.
