Each bookcase in this pair is made of mahogany and features extensive gilt bronze (ormolu) mounts throughout. The bookcases follow a largely bipartite design scheme. The upper body of each, recessed in depth relative to the lower to create a shallow shelf, features double glazed doors and houses three wooden shelves within. The lower body of each features blind wooden doors containing a single wooden shelf. Above the doors is a pair of drawers with gilt bronze handles and keyholes. The design of these bookcases is of a Neoclassical style. Gilt bronze mounts serve as lines of articulation, granting the pair a classical grace—a classicism emphasised by the cornices that surmount each case.
