These elegant silver and glass claret wine jugs bear the maker’s marks for Armand Gross. Gross was an accomplished silversmith, active in France in the late-19th and early-20th Century. These silver claret jugs will make wonderful additions to a dinner service, or fine drinking set.
The jugs feature elegant shaped silver spouts, decorated with foliate motifs and gilded on their interior. These are covered by silver lids, which are mounted with leafy oval handles. The spouts are set on fluted silver necks, ornamented with drapery swags and ribbon bows. Each jug is fitted with a strapwork handle with leafy ends, which is topped by a ribbon bow. The ovoid jug bodies are crafted from finely engraved and fluted glass. The glass bodies are set on silver supports, with stylised foliate tops, smooth waisted stems, and leafy circular feet.
