Object Description

This early Isfahan rug was created before the commercialisation of traditional workshop weavings at the turn of the last century. The subtle and charming grey-blue field compliments the monochrome drawing, framed by a wide border. An understated rug with a quiet formality.

Object History

Isfahan, the ancient capital of Persia, was the creative hub of amazing Persian art and textiles during the 17th century Safavid period and Isfahan rugs lay claim to this proud tradition. Many of the court-quality carpets that survive today are attributed to Isfahan.

Object Condition

In very well preserved condition for everyday use.
