Object Description

The city of Qum started weaving rugs only in the early 20th century, but soon established itself as a centre for exceptional fine weavings. They are highly appreciated for their fine work and many top end pure silk rugs attributed to the city’s workshops.

This example – woven in fine wool rather than silk, shows artistic characteristics specific to the 19th century Arts & Crafts movement – a rare feature forthis type of Qum weaving. The colour combination of ivory, green, yellow and blue is unique. This piece is one of a kind and in very good condition.
