Object Description
A beautiful diamond and natural pearl bracelet by Van Cleef & Arpels 1924, the articulated and highly flexible bracelet set with a central row of forty six round transition cut diamonds in platinum rubover settings with millegrian edging, in between two outer rows of round creamy-white natural pearls, all to a concealed tongue and box clasp. This bracelet dates from 1924, when VCA had been running for less than twenty years. However in that time they had established themselves as purveyors of the finest quality jewels and accessories, opened three additional branches to their Place Vendôme boutique and would go on to win a Grand Prix at the Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs the following year. All-white jewels such as this bracelet were very much en vogue at this time, with the combination of pearls, diamonds and platinum a particular favourite. Straight strap-style bracelets would be worn in multiples now that evening fashions meant bare arms were de-rigueur and no doubt this lovely jewel has been worn to many a special occasion. It may also have witnessed an “I do” or two as well, with diamonds and pearls a traditional choice for wedding jewellery. Whatever its past, this elegant and feminine bracelet is now looking for a future and a few more celebrations to attend.
