A very heavy and fine quality sterling silver hand forged rattail pattern cutlery / flatware service made in Queen Elizabeth II Silver Jubilee year of 1977 by William Walter of London – Knives 1992 C J Vander of Sheffield.
The set is approximately 50 percent heavy than is usual and this was one of a set of four services Raymond Walter , father of the current owner , had specially made in 1977 for the Queens Silver Jubilee .
The set is composed of :
12 Table spoons,
12 Table forks,
12 Dessert spoons,
12 Dessert forks
12 Teaspoons
2 very large and heavy Basting spoons and two Sauce ladles .
In addition to this are 12 heavy gauge octagonal pistol Table knives and 12 Dessert knives (Dishwasher safe unfilled handles).
In total 88 pieces.
Weight, excluding knives 176 troy oz. Knives including blades , table 36 troy oz, desserts 31.5 troy oz.
This is possibly finest hand-forged 3 prong rattail sets ever made and is in superb condition.
The cost of making such a set today would be prohibitively expensive. To give an idea of the quality, a table fork weighs roughly 3.5 troy oz and a tablespoon roughly 3.7 troy oz.
