Object Description

This extremely large pair of early George III silver communion cups were made in Edinburgh in 1766 by John Clarke and measure 9 1/8 inches tall by 4 7/8 inches in dia across the top and 4.25 inches across the base. They have a baluster shaped stem rising from a stepped foot leading into a large bowl that has the inscription BELONGING TO THE KIRK OF SESSION OF KINFAUNS 1767, the bowls are gilded to the interiors and they are fully hallmarked to the underside of the bowls. The condition is good and they weigh 31.75 ounces or 987 grams, a very large and eye catching pair of chalices from the old kirk.
