Object Description
This very rare Charles II silver Flame Back spoon was made in London C1677/7 by John King and measures 7 1/8 inches in length and has flames to the front of stem at the top as well as flames to the back of the bowl, it has a reeded rat tail and is hallmarked to the back of the stem but without a date letter, a very similar spoon by the same maker can be found on page 700/1 in Silver Spoons of Britain 1200-1710 by David Constable, it also has the engraved initials of S over TM to the back of the stem. The flaming is well defined and the bowl well formed with no obvious signs of wear, a very rare spoon in very good condition.
