Object Description
This very pretty engraved cut cornered Charles II silver and rock crystal squeeze sided box was made C1680 and is marked with the makers mark, this is partially hidden by the metal hinge part but it is W? Crowned, it measures 1 5/8 inches in length by 1 1/8 inches wide and is 0.5 inches deep, it is engraved to both lid and base with scrolling acanthus leaves and to the base with 2 winged cherubs either side of a bowl of fruit sitting on large acanthus leaves, the sides are ribbed and the domed oval of crystal has a few small pieces of grass inside and an area which looks like a crack but there is no evidence of this to the top side so I believe it to be a natural patterning inside. A very rare box in lovely condition.
