Object Description

An antique spoon warmer in the former of a nautilus shell on a raised base. Plain design with a quality hinged lid. Height 13.5 cms. Length 15.5 cms. Width 9 cms. Silver plated. Circa 1870. Unmarked. Silver plated on Britannia metal. Made in Sheffield, UK.

Object Literature

These collectible items were originally made to assist in keeping food warm in the chilly Victorian houses. They were particularly useful in spooning out gravy. Nowadays they are popularly used as flower holders, toothbrush holders, pen pots etc.

Object Condition

This collectible antique spoon warmer is in very good condition with no damage, bumps or bruises. No restoration. The original plate has minor plate loss but is still shiny and looks good. The hinge works well.
