Object Description
A collectors item. An excellent quality sterling silver bottle ticket with a silver chain. Very heavy with an unusual modern design and applied across the centre with “WHISKY”. Weight 49 grams, 1.5 troy ounce. Measures 8.1 x 5.4 cm. Fully hallmarked across the front for London 1992. Maker CJ Vander.
Biography – CJ Vander, London manufacturing silversmith. The firm was started in 1856 by Alexander Macrae who took Martin Goldstein as partner in 1870 and the business was sold to their ex-apprentice Cornelius Joshua Vander in 1886. In that same year Vander entered his first mark. On Vander’s death in 1904 the firm continued under his sons Alfred and Henry. His grandsons Henry, Arthur and Norman entered the business in the 1920’s which became a limited company in c.1930. In 1996 the firm was acquired by the US company Syratech Corporation.
