Chinese blue and white porcelain lidded jar with original cover from the Vung Tau Cargo which sank on the way to the Dutch Ports in Batavia. There it would have been transhipped and sailed back to Holland with the VOC. The sinking happened c1690
The vase is lightly moulded and painted with shaped panels of tree peony below a hatched band.
It was salvaged by Captain Hatcher and sold through Christies in their Amsterdam Salerooms in April 1992
