Object Description
Western Asiatic Achaemenid gold earrings. A matching pair of earrings, each composed of a hoop with wirework collars and suspending a cluster of hollow spheres with granule detailing, approximately 2cm in length (excluding shepherd’s hook fitting). Tested yellow gold, approximately 3.6 grams in weight, circa 6th-4th century BC.
These earrings have been fitted with modern yellow gold shepherd’s hook fittings so that they can be worn today without affecting their historical integrity.
Complete matching earrings such as these are a rare survival from the ancient world. These earrings are a testament to the high level of skill of the craftsmen of the time and are in fine condition commensurate with their age.
